Achievements
Billy Zimmermann Memorial Soccer Tournament
Billy Zimmermann was a close friend and fraternity brother of John Hartunian before his sudden death in March of 2013. After his death, Billy's parents set up a scholarship fund through his high school, Seton Hall Preparatory School.
Upon learning about the scholarship fund, John Hartunian set out to raise funds in memoriam of Billy. John became the lead organizer of the first annual Billy Zimmermann Memorial Soccer Tournament at Villanova University. Working on behalf of his fraternity, John organized a 3v3 soccer tournament held at Villanova and registered over 40 teams. More than 200 people participated in the event, with countless more donating to the cause. As a result, John was able to raise over $3,000 for Billy's scholarship fund.
John Hartunian plans to organize the tournament again in both 2014 and 2015, in the hopes that he and his fraternity brothers can contribute to Billy's legacy, and ensure that Billy Zimmermann remains a proud part of Villanova University.

VSB-WeekVSB-Week is a week of events centered around the ideals of the Villanova School of Business. The events are open to students, faculty and staff, and the local community, and focus on the core values of VSB: innovation and creativity, a global business perspective, ethical business practices, and a focus on cutting-edge industries and technologies. The annual event was first started in 2010, and has been run by a select group of students each year since its inception.
John Hartunian got involved with VSB-Week almost immediately upon his arrival to Villanova University in the Fall of 2011. John quickly became the chairmen of the team's subcommittee on global events, participating throughout his entire freshman year as an integral voice of the committee. As a sophomore, John became the VSB-Week Committee's Co-Chairman, leading a group of 20 students through the 8 month process of organizing, arranging, and executing VSB-Week 2013. Under John Hartunian's leadership, VSB-Week 2013 was an enormous success. Turnout was up from the previous year, and student feedback was very positive. John now serves as a student advisor to the committee, and a counselor to the new committee chairpersons. To read more about VSB-Week 2013, and to see what John and the committee are planning for 2014, you can visit the committee's Facebook page, or follow them on Twitter. |

Located at the Town of Colonie Golf Course on September 24th, 2012, the AP Golf Outing brought together local and national businesses, community members, and government officials. With sponsors including M&W US and Siemens Industry Inc, the outing included over 70 golfers, a silent auction, prizes and raffles. In total, the 2012 AP Golf outing raised $25,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project, money that went directly to servicemen and women in need, all around the country. In its second year, the program generated over $20,000, money that was used to help fund extracurricular programs for a struggling local school district. |
American Legion Boys Nation 2010
Each year, the American Legion selects 98 young men from the United States to participate in their Boys Nation program. The delegates, which represent 49 of the 50 states, create a mock US Senate; they draft and debate legislation, pass laws, and campaign for mock political office.
During his time in Washington, DC, John took the program by storm. He drafted a bill on college tuition reform, served as director for the program's winning presidential campaign, and was selected as the 2010 American Legion Youth Secretary of Education. He also co-sponsored a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, working with delegates from various backgrounds and political views to further a cause that has a personal connection to his heritage.
The program also gave delegates an opportunity to explore the history and politics of the nation's capitol. John toured the Capitol Building and Supreme Court, met with key officials in New York Senator Chuck Schumer's office, and was even given a chance to visit the White House, where he spoke with President Barack Obama about the education bill he created.
John remains a fond alumnus of the program, and looks forward to meeting and learning of the success of its past and future members. Other notable alumni include President William Clinton, Tom Brokaw, and Michael Jordan.
